Disasters
Disasters are the hardships that strike a settlement. Each week there is a random chance that a disaster strikes, as long as that kind is off its cooldown and the land is not in its quiet weeks. Every disaster costs 1 Happiness. After any disaster the land stays quiet for 12 weeks, and each kind has its own cooldown before it can strike again.
The disasters
| Disaster | Cooldown | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Tornado | 52 weeks | 5% of the population dies; buildings in its path may be hit (never the Mine or Sand Quarry). |
| Hurricane | 104 weeks | 10% of the population dies; buildings may be hit, the Dock and Shipyard at 15%. |
| Flood | 24 weeks | 5% of the population dies; up to 2 of these may be hit: Dock, Shipyard, Grain Farm, Chicken Farm, Cow Ranch, Horse Ranch. |
| Avalanche | 52 weeks | The Mine may be hit, and the first 8 tunnel cubes from each Mine entrance collapse, supported or not (see Underground). |
| Landslide | 48 weeks | The Sand Quarry may be hit. |
| Cave In | 12 weeks | The Mine may be hit, and 12 more unsupported tunnel cubes collapse at the next week. Fully supported tunnels are safe. |
| Raider Attack | 12 weeks | Raiders attack the settlement in a battle; up to 2 of these may be hit: Grain Farm, Chicken Farm, Cow Ranch, Horse Ranch, House, Forest, Darkwood Forest, Mine, Sand Quarry, Dragon's Nest. |
| Siege | 104 weeks | 5% of the population dies and an enemy army lays siege to the walls. If it breaches, the weakest piece of the wall ring is destroyed, and sieges return every week until the gap is rebuilt. |
| Forest Fire | 52 weeks | One of these may be hit: Forest, Darkwood Forest. |
| Building Fire | 12 weeks | 1% of the population dies; one town building that is not a gathering site may be hit. |
| Famine | 104 weeks | All Grain in stock is lost and the famine lasts 4 weeks. |
| Plague | 208 weeks | 20% of the population dies at once, then 1% more each week for 4 weeks, with −1 Happiness each of those weeks. |
| Earthquake | 208 weeks | 15% of the population dies; up to 4 built buildings may be hit. |
| Economic War | 104 weeks | For 12 weeks jobs and construction take twice as long and the Market is closed. |
| Planar Invasion | once ever | Happens once ever: 4 weeks later a planar army lays siege, killing 5% of the population. |
| Wolves | 4 weeks | One of these may be hit: Grain Farm, Chicken Farm, Cow Ranch, Horse Ranch, Forest, Darkwood Forest; 10% of the Chickens, Cows, Horses, War Horses, Fish, Meat and Meals in stock are lost. |
Buildings hit
Each building a disaster can reach is hit with a 5% chance. A building that is hit may be leveled down, or destroyed outright. Buildings in the Underground are never touched by disasters.
Deaths
Deaths take civilians first: the unemployed, then workers in job order. Troops die only after every civilian who can be removed. A death count is rounded up, at least 1 person. The migration readout shows next week's expected deaths before you press Next Week.
