Skills
Heroes grow two kinds of skill, both on a scale of 0 to 100. Using a skill can raise it by 0.1; the lower the skill, the better the chance (at 0 the chance is 1 in 2, near 100 almost none). A skill’s value sets its level:
| Level | Skill |
|---|---|
| Untrained | below 25 |
| Trained | 25 |
| Expert | 50 |
| Master | 75 |
| Legendary | 100 |
Weapon and armor skills
Nine skills govern weapons and armor. Each class can raise them only up to its own level cap:
| Skill | Bard | Cleric | Fighter | Ranger | Wizard |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Swordsmanship | Expert | Expert | Legendary | Master | — |
| Mace Fighting | Expert | Master | Legendary | Master | Expert |
| Spear Fighting | Expert | Expert | Legendary | Master | Expert |

| Light Armor | Expert | Expert | Master | Expert | — |
| Medium Armor | — | Expert | Master | Expert | — |

Mining raises how much a hero can dig by hand each week: the tool's weekly work × (1 + Mining ÷ 100). It also sets how far ore can be seen underground, for the hero and the town's Miners alike: 8 tiles + 0.16 per point, from 8 tiles (80 ft) at 0 to 24 tiles (240 ft) at 100. See Underground.
